Al Khaldiya, established in 1961, is an area that belongs to the Kuwait City governorate. It is 2,569 km2, and according to the statistics of the Public Authority for Civil Information in 2008, its population size reached 16,851.

The City of Khaldiya is divided into four sections, each of which is referred to as a block; Block 3 is the largest, including the College of Engineering and Petroleum and the College of Science, both of which are part of Kuwait University.

Al Khaldiya area is 3km away from the Adiliyya area; it is also bordered by the Kaifan area, Yarmouk area, and Shuweikh industrial area. It is 6.2km away from the center of Kuwait City and almost 10.5km away from the Duty-Free area.

Al Khaldiya geography and climate

Al Khalidiya is named after Sheikh Khalid Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the son of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and the brother of Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, both of which had ruled Kuwait at some point in time. The first person to settle in the area was Sheikh Khalid Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, he built his mansion in the area and had his farm as well. 

Al Khaldiya is 6.2km away from the center of Kuwait City and 10.5km away from the Duty-Free area. The climate in Al Khaldiya is similar to the desert; the area experiences very little rainfall throughout the year. The annual precipitation peaks at 22 ml, whereas the average maximum temperature is 35.7°C in July. The area experiences cold winters with a minimum temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius in January.

One of which is Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij, Kuwait’s Ambassador in Jordan, who was a Doctor at the Faculty of Medicine at Kuwait University. Haj Musa Al-Bakr is also a resident of the area; he was one of the founders of the Al Khaldiya Association and he is one of the great merchants known in Kuwait, he was the owner of record No.3 in the Chamber of Commerce.

Other residents of the area include Mr. Hamoud Mohammed Al Hamad (first Mukhtar of the area), Mrs. Suaad Al Refai (first female principal of a school), Professor Mariam Abdulmalek Al Saleh (the first female teacher), the famous poet Yacoub Abdulaziz Rashid, as well as Nayef Hamad Al-Jassem Al-Dabbous. Additionally, the former President of Kazema Club, the Director of Customs, and many other personalities and influencers in Kuwait’s history lived in the area.
